The Noorderkerk was designed by Hendrick de Keyser and built in the years 1620-1623. This church is special because it was built centrally, which means that it takes the shape of a Greek cross. This type of floorplan was unusual at that time. The church is situated in the Jordaan district next to one of the beautiful canals of Amsterdam. Even when you do not want to visit the church, this is still a very nice place to walk around or start your city stroll.
Around 30 concerts being organised at the church annually. In total they draw around 7.000 visitors. The performances are always that of the best musicians in the country or from abroad. The type of performances are very divergent. It can range from opera, children’s concerts, performances of young talent, and sometimes you are in for a treat that is a little bit more jazzy. Concerts are being organised (almost) every Saturday from 14.00 till 15.00h.
