A visit to The Netherlands would not be complete without having seen the lovely Dutch countryside. Luckily, this is only a 20 minte drive from the city of Amsterdam. Visit the authentic windmills at the Zaanse Schans and the typical Dutch Villages Volendam & Edam in a half-day bustour!
The morning will start with the Zaanse Schans, where the 18th century architecture will blow you away. Visit a live working windmill and see traditional craftsman at work, making wooden shoes; clogs.
Then a trip through the ‘polders’ (land reclaimed from the water) will take the tour to the lovely village of Edam: The Pearl of the Zuiderzee’. Edam had countless cute canals and mindblowing 17th century buildings, but of course it is most famous because of the Edammer Cheese!
See how this world famous cheese is made in a cheese farm and, obviously, try the Edammer Cheese!
The last stop of the tour is Volendam: a beautiful seaside fishing village. The Volendam harbour has been a popular tourist attraction since 1875, and for good reason! People from all over the world want to see one of the only places where the Dutch still wear traditional costumes, for instance. Volendam is a must if you want to grasp Dutch culture and history.
After this excursion, you have experienced everything typically Dutch, it’s a great way to meet Dutch heritage!
Would you like more freedom in your countryside experience? Another option to discover the countryside of Amsterdam is to take the Hop on Hop off tour.Â
