Welcome to the coolest bar in Amsterdam, and yes, you may take that quite literally. At the Ice Bar Amsterdam you are welcomed by Willem Barentsz into his world, that of a Dutch explorer in 1596.
Don’t you know Barentsz yet? His ship the Mercury sailed out to find a new route to Asia by sailing the north side of Europe, instead of the south side. Can you imagine how cold it must have been, all the way up in Russia, on the island ‘Nova Zembla’? The poor crew sailed in the North for over nine months, surviving the hardships of the extreme cold and wild animals.
Now the question is: how long will you be able to last in the cold of Nova Zembla? At least you will have some nice drinks to keep you warm.
To make the coldness inside the Ice Bar a little more bearable you can relax in one of the two bars you will find inside. In the first bar you can enjoy the lounge and your free welcome cocktail. You will be introduced to the cold world of the Nova Zembla in an interesting introduction movie. When you will finish you free welcome cocktail (if you don’t like cocktails, they also serve ice cold Heineken of course!) get ready to freeze!
Before entering the second bar, the actual Ice Bar, you will be handed a thermal coat and gloves to keep you warm whilst you drink your next two free drinks! Get your camera ready, prepare for the cold and enjoy this unique Experience in the heart of Amsterdam! The Ice Bar is to be found next to the Rembrandtplein!
