7x The best lunch spots in Amsterdam (with terrace!)
There are a lot of places for lunch in Amsterdam. Now that the weather is getting better we can imagine that you’d like to sit outside, and enjoy the sunshine. That’s why we will tell you more about our 7 favourite lunch spots in Amsterdam with a terrace! The terraces are located all over Amsterdam and all the restaurants also have great options for dinner!
The Corner Amsterdam
Want to have the best lunch in Amsterdam? Then The Corner Amsterdam is the right place for you. Cheerful service, casual hospitality and the quality of the kitchen are the high points of this restaurant.
They have a wide selection of sandwiches, burgers and of course their specials for lunch and dinner. Our favourite is the shared dining experience, a chef special, where you get a variety of different dishes chosen by the chef. Make sure you have an empty stomach because even though you share this/these dish(es), it does not come on tiny plates (which is the best, in our opinion!).
Besides having a great lunch or dinner, you can also just enjoy a good glass of wine or take a nice cold beer at the tap. They also have the popular Gin & Tonic’s and other mixed drinks ready for you. Not to forget that they broadcast the local football games at the restaurant. With nice weather you can even see the football games on their beautiful terrace with some typical Dutch ‘bitterballen’.
The Corner is quality for affordable prices, so don’t worry about your budget!
You can find the Corner on the Scheldeplein in the Amsterdam Rivierenbuurt, opposite of the RAI complex. The café is easily accessible by public transport and there is sufficient parking space nearby. Visit their website for more information and reservations.
A bit further down the centre of Amsterdam, you will find the French restaurant Lion Noir. This restaurant is quite special because it has a hidden garden. It is an authentic culinary experience where you can have a quiet lunch in the open air at the heart of Amsterdam.
Not only does Lion Noire have a beautiful garden, the interior design of the restaurant is extraordinary. Casper Reinders created the interior together with Thijs Murré and Serge Rijn, hand picking the diverse eccentric objects, making it the elegant place it is. The restaurant even won the Interior Design of the Year Award.
Lion Noire offers lunch, dinner and a lounge with a cocktail bar, where you can enjoy a nice drink. The menu serves modern French classics with spices from all over the world. The chef’s menu changes weekly so they always have the best available ingredients of the moment.
Lion Noir is located at the ‘gouden bocht’ (golden turn) in the famous and happening Reguliersdwarsstraat in Amsterdam where the ambience is always good. Go to their website to take a look at their menu, or to make a reservation.
In front of Central Station, you’ll find a cute looking house, and that is where Loetje Centraal is located. If you feel like having a big lunch full of delicious food, then Loetje is the place to be! This is where you get the best steak of Amsterdam on a silver platter. No matter what you order at Loetje, it is always the quality you expect. You don’t have to make a reservation at Loetje Centraal, so you will always have a table. It may be that you are put on the waiting list, but then you can at least get a drink at the bar, which is also very entertaining.
Loetje Centraal has great staff and people are always there to help you. And let’s not forget about the beautiful terrace they have! You’ll see a lot of canal cruise boats and it’s a great place to have lunch on sunny days.
Are you further into the centre of Amsterdam? Luckily there are many more Loetje’s in Amsterdam. You have on in The Pijp, that is one of Amsterdam’s most bustling neighbourhoods. You can find all the restaurants on the website. But no other Loetje has a terrace as amazing as Loetje Centraal.
Welcome in the living room of the most beautiful park in Amsterdam! At Vondelpark3 you can have an amazing lunch, breakfast and dinner while looking over the Vondelpark. This restaurant was once the former Vondelpark paviljoen but after a renovation of 1,5 year the building reopened in spring 2014.
On the menu you find a long list of options, based on historical Dutch recipes and a lot of vegan and vegetarian options. These are inspired by the ‘Keto-Lifestyle’ with delicious, healthy and surprising dishes. From now on you can taste this menu and experience the authentic flavours where there is something for everyone! So, whether you come for a nice cup of coffee and a good conversation or a salad after walking around in the Vondelpark: Vondelpark3 is open and you are welcome.
Vondelpark3 is also an excellent choice if you are looking for a restaurant suitable for a big group or an event.
For the typical Dutch beer, you have to be at the Taproom, where 24 different kinds of beer just come out the wall. They believe that cold beers are the best and that’s why they have all different kinds of beer in a tap behind de bar in the wall. When you go to the toilet you can even see the beer barrels behind a glass wall.
But you can also come here for a few good typically Dutch bar bites. That is why their menu is full of juicy burgers, tasty sandwiches and BBQ meals to eat with your beer. They also have tasty snacks to make the drink even better!
Taproom is on the Nieuwe Vijzelstraat, where De Gelachkamer used to be. Better known, it seems, as the pub of the singer Ramses Shaffy. It now has been taken over by Cas Jansen, known from Goede Tijden Slechte Tijden (a famous Dutch show), who changed it into the Taproom. Take a look at their website to see all the different kinds of beer!
Looking for a fancy lunch very close to the Rijksmuseum? If you enter the museum via the Museum Square you will pass restaurant RIJKS. At RIJKS you can enjoy a delicious lunch! Here you can try real Dutch luxurious food. The menu is composed of dishes with ingredients that are predominantly from Dutch soil.
RIJKS invites an internationally renowned guest chef a few times a year, similar to a guest curator in the museum. At Hangar you can have lunch next to the river IJ, the ultimate beach vibe. They have a very big lounge on the terrace with real sand on the floor. This way it looks just like you are on the beach. The interior of Hangar is a concept of styling expert Stella Willing (Casa Gitane). The style describes itself as “A beautiful mess”. It was her goal to make it a stylish, warm and cosy place. In addition to the huge terrace in the summer, they also have a fireplace on the terrace in the winter months, allowing you to sit outside but still be warm. The tent on the terrace is also a place where you can enjoy the unique location overlooking the IJ all year round.
They have a big variation of food from seafood, to meat, to vegetarian, The Hangar has it all. Their chef Ricardo van Ede was already cooking at star level at the age of 21. He created a new menu that clearly shows his love for distinct flavors and high-quality ingredients.
