Summer is here! Check out all cool events and exhibitions happening in July. It’s the month of outdoor performances, festivals and other special events that will take place. To make it easy for you, we have made an overview of the events and exhibitions that take place in July that we don’t want you to miss!

till 22 July – World press Photo – De Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam
The winning images from the world’s largest and most prestigious annual press photography contest begin their world tour in The Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam. At the World Press Photo event 2018 you will see over 160 impressive press photos of 42 photographers from 22 countries. The Netherlands is well represented this year with photos of Carla Kogelman , Jasper Doest, and Kadir van Lohuizen. You will also see the winning productions in the Digital Storytelling Contest.
View the entire collection of winning images from the 61st World Press Photo Contest. They were selected from 73,044 images taken by 4,548 photographers from 125 different countries.
16/06/18/ – 13/01/19/ Hermitage Amsterdam – Classic Beauties
The exhibition Classic Beauties, artists, Italy and the beauty ideals of the 18th century gives an insight about the human body that has fascinated artists through the ages. This subject was given in Italy a new dimension through the excavations of art. Artists like Canova, Thorvaldsen, Mengs, Kauffman and Batoni wanted an even better ideal than the ideal of the Greeks and Romans and went for the highest perfection.
26/01/ – 02/09/ – Jewish Historical Museum – Maria Austria, living for Photography
An exhibition about Maria Austria who was a famous Jewish photographer between 1915 – 1975. In this exhibition you will find a complete picture of here photography that is presented, with rediscovered work and unknown pictures. The most exciting part consists of a series of 150 pictures that shows the Achterhuis (where Anne Frank lived), made in 1954 on behalf of Otto Frank.
22/06/ – 23/09/ – Chillida in the Rijksmuseum gardens
For the first time there are a dozen of monumental outdoor sculptures together that can be seen at the Rijksmuseum gardens. The high sculptures are made by the Spanish Basque artist Eduardo Chillida (1924-2002). The collection of the sculptures exists out of different periods, that show his ideas on fullness and emptiness, interior and exterior, gravity and balance.
01/06 till 15/01 – Icy & Sot – A Moment of Clarity at Moco Museum
Icy (34) and Sot (29) are two young Iranian brothers that are called the ‘Banksy of Iran’. Their street work literally holds a mirror to the current Iranian society. In Iran their work is not only considered controversial, but is even banned in their own country. The exhibitions gives an unique view on themes themes like fam, war, freedom, oppression and dreams. The talent of the brothers did not go unnoticed and soon Icy and Sot got the chance to leave the streets of Tabriz tempted by New York.
Till 19/08/ – Amsterdam Museum – Paradiso 50 Years
Paradiso is part of the Amsterdam’s cultural heritage and world famous. Bands andartists from all over the world have performed there and many people came to Amsterdam to particularly attend a concert at Paradiso. In this exhibition, Paradiso shows an unique photo collection with more than 200 photos about the concerts, artists, historic posters and visitors can also see live recordings made of concerts. Besides that the exhibition also shows an inside look at the variety of the constantly changing Amsterdam subcultures.
14/07 till 05/08 – Kwaku summer festival
The kwaku Summer Festival is the largest multicultural festival in the Netherlands that is held every Saturday and Sunday in the months of July and August in the Nelson Mandela park in Amsterdam Zuidoost. For four weekends, the organization offers a varied program in the field of live music, film, music, sports, food, dancing, information and meetings. Every year the festival has a different theme that is reflected in music, performances, art, literature and various elections.
28/07 till 05/08 – Gay parade
The Gay parade 2018 will take place from 28 July to 5 August 2018 in Amsterdam. This gay parade is a festival to celebrate that you can be who you are and may love whoever you want. It’s a nine-day event that consists of various indoor and outdoor activities. There are various street and square festivals, a manifestation including the Pride Walk and of course the boat parade (canal parade) on Saturday the 4th of August. The outdoor events and parties take place mainly in the last weekend, on Friday and Saturday.
13/07/ till 22/07/– Over the IJ festival
A 10-day long summer theatre festival on the waterfront of the IJ at the NDSM-wharf in Amsterdam North. This festival offers a great variation of live bands, DJ’s, live performances, activities and delicious food stands. It will let you discover a raw, urban area where you can enjoy a nice day with your friends or family.
13/07/ – 15/07/ – TREK Food truck festival
Make a tasty discovery trip through the various choices of street food. Take place at the tables atone of the mobile food trucks, and enjoy surprisinglygood tastefully prepared dishes. There is something for everyone on the menu; vegan, vegetarian, meat, fish, you can find it all. The taste buds are fully treated for a weekend. The food trucks will be open from 4pm until 11 pm. Just have a wander at the Amstelpark and find a whole new Dutch food experience.
An electronic music festival in Het Twiske recreational area in Oostzaan, just north of Amsterdam. The festival has 7 stages where you can enjoy all kinds of music that mostly consist of techno and house. Partygoers can have a great time enjoying the music, hangout in a hammock or chill at the water side, or have a snack and a drink. There is enough to do on this big festival and it welcomes everybody .
27/07/ – Sunday market
An art, fashion and design market where creators show their best work to the public. On the market you will find a selection of divergent designs on things like interior and product design, ceramics, fashion, vintage, jewelry, accessories, illustrations, affordable art, kids’ design, beautiful organic products, and good food and drinks. The creators also sell their product directly to the costumers, offer workshops and on the market there are all kinds of children activities.
