One of the newest cinema’s in Amsterdam is the Filmhallen. This beautiful cinema offers you a well balanced mix between arthouse films, documentaries, and the more arty blockbuster. This movie theatre first opened its doors in September 2014. Even though the theatre feels very intimate, they have nine screens and around 800 chairs. This makes it one of the largest independent movie theatres in the Netherlands.
The Filmhallen is situated in De Hallen, an old tram shed that has been rebuild and modernized in order to create a place where people can spend an entire day. Here you can find modern shops, a gallery, a lot of food stands, a library, and the movie theatre. Inside the Filmhallen there is one room, room 7, that is completely in art deco style. Sadly, you can’t see any of that during the movie, which means that you have to come early.
