5x Things to do during Pride Week
Since its inception in 1996, Amsterdam Pride festival has developed into a nine-day festival and has become one of the best and biggest celebrations of LGBTQIA+ worldwide. Amsterdam is turned into a rainbow of events with dance parties, film festivals, sporting events, debate and culture, a PrideWalk with adjacent Rainbow Park and in the final weekend Amsterdam is literally and figuratively on party lock down, with outdoor venues at several locations throughout the city and of course the world famous Canal Parade. The theme of Pride Amsterdam 2019 is “Remember the past, create the future”.
Below we have listed 5x things you can do in Amsterdam:
Canal Parade 2019 – August 3rd
Lets start with a world famous event that will take place this weekend! (august 3rd 2019) The Pride Canal Parade!
On the 3rd of August we have the famous Canal Parade! This is the highlight of the week and on this day you see the most beautiful decorated boats passing by.
It starts at 12.30 PM and ends at 5.30 PM.
Also this year there are many different types of participants, from small local LGBT foundations, national LGBT interest groups, gay-hospitality, pink networks of multinationals and banks, pink government institutions, political parties, ministries to (media) companies that fight the emancipation and support the LGBT community. This year’s theme is “Remember the past, create the future” that commemorates the Stonewall riots that broke out 50 years ago in New York and form a dividing line in the history of the LGBT movement. A year later, in 1970, the world’s first Pride Parade was held in New York. Parties were able to register in January and had to submit a draft of how they would portray the theme. The ballot committee has considered the applications and selected the 80 most beautiful, best and most appealing concepts.
The route will go through: Oosterdok – Nieuwe Herengracht – Amstel – Prinsengracht – Westerdok.
